September 30th 1996 was the big day! The day the Nintendo 64 was to be released in North America. That's what was supposed to happen anyway. Several retailers ended up breaking this release date with consoles hitting store shelves as early as September 26th. Two titles were available at launch: Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64. Cruis'N USA was supposed to join them, but it was delayed due to Nintendo wanting Midway to censor the game. In total, there were 8 Nintendo 64 releases in North America.
