Acclaim Sports Ships NBA Jam '99 and NHL Breakaway '99 for Nintendo 64

Acclaimsports.com is Relaunched to Support New Sports Product

Glen Cove, N.Y., December 3, 1998 -- Acclaim Sports, a division of Acclaim Entertainment, today announced NBA Jam '99, a 5-on-5 basketball game, and NHL Breakaway '99, the sequel to last year's critically acclaimed NHL video game simulation, will both ship to retail this week for the Nintendo 64. NBA Jam '99 and NHL Breakaway '99 complete a very strong Acclaim Sports holiday lineup which includes NFL Quarterback Club '99, All-Star Baseball '99 and WWF War Zone. To celebrate the launch of these two great titles and the entire Acclaim sports lineup, Acclaim has relaunched its sports website,
http://www.acclaimsports.com .

Starting this week, the Acclaim Sports website will have a new, streamlined look. The site will resemble a sports page with all the latest news and information on Acclaim's current and upcoming sports titles. A "Product Spotlight" section will focus on a new sports title every week, going behind the scenes for a special insider's look at each game's development. In addition, the Acclaim Sports site will feature interviews with well-known athletes and other sports personalities who are involved with the development of Acclaim's sports games. In coming months, contests featuring autographed sports memorabilia and an online sports store will both be a part of the new
Acclaimsports.com.

"We are very excited about our new sports site and our sports line-up for the holidays," said Paul Eibeler, vice-president and general manager of Acclaim North America. "We began shipping NBA Jam '99 and NHL Breakaway '99 on Monday, November 30th. Both titles are great additions to the Acclaim Sports line-up."

The NBA Jam series is one of the most popular sports video game franchises of all time. NBA Jam '99, has evolved the franchise from a frenetic 2-on-2 arcade-style basketball game to a realistic 5-on-5 simulation. Using Acclaim Studio's advanced sports engine, NBA Jam '99 features over 300 NBA players with true-to-life faces, smooth skin textures, and accurate sizes and attributes. The game boasts unique signature moves for the NBA's top stars and is endorsed by star rookie Keith Van Horn of the NJ Nets, who provided motion capture along with Minnesota Timberwolves star guard Stephon Marbury. NBA Jam '99 also features more continuous commentary than any N64 game to date. Over 1,000 individual phrases can be heard from NBA commentators Kevin Harlan and Bill Walton, as well as player introductions and scoring updates from Utah Jazz public address announcer Dan Roberts.

For fans of the original series, NBA Jam '99 also features a special 5-on-5 "Jam" arcade mode. Jam mode features gravity-defying dunks, no fouls and flaming basketballs when a player is "on fire" -- the type of "above the rim" action that made NBA Jam a household name.

Leaving the hardwood and hitting the ice, NHL Breakaway '99 for Nintendo 64, features the same fast-moving, hardhitting action that won last year's edition critical praise and a "Sports Game of the Year" Award from leading gaming website,Videogames.com. Joining the Acclaim Sports team, and contributing to the design of NHL Breakaway '99 is 1998 Stanley Cup MVP Steve Yzerman, captain of the NHL champion Detroit Red Wings.

In addition to brand new 1998-99 team rosters and uniforms, NHL Breakaway '99 includes Yzerman's detailed team scouting reports, real-life on-ice textures for NHL arenas, realigned NHL divisions, and the NHL's newest addition, the expansion Nashville Predators.

"Acclaim Sports has something for every Nintendo 64 sports fan this holiday season," said Mike Jerchower, sports marketing manager at Acclaim Entertainment. "NBA Jam '99 and NHL Breakaway '99 continue our tradition of producing high quality, professional sports simulations that push the limits of the Nintendo system."

NBA Jam '99 and NHL Breakaway '99 will be supported by a national print, radio and on-line advertising campaign. NHL Breakaway is a featured title in a series of Nintendo-sponsored sports game commercials, and Van Horn appears in Acclaim Sports' NBA Jam '99 TV spot. Additionally, NBA Jam '99 will be promoted in packs of Fleer/SkyBox basketball cards as part of a special sweepstakes.
