Acclaim Studios Teesside

Optimus Software was a small UK game developer founded in 1988 and located in Teesside, England. From 1988 to 1993 the company developed games for computers such as the Atari ST and Amiga. Things did change in 1993 when Optimus was bought out by Iguana Entertainment. Optimus Software was then renamed to Iguana UK.

Most of Iguana UK's development at the time involved porting games and assisting Iguana Entertainment with their projects. In 1995 both Iguana companies were sold to Acclaim with the stipulation that they would retain their independence. They didn't really retain it though because in 1999 the company was renamed to Acclaim Studios Teesside. Acclaim Studios Teesside had just a couple of N64 games to their name.

Acclaim Studios Teesside did developer the sequel to Shadowman, but otherwise they didn't have too many projects on sixth generation consoles. In 2002 the studio was closed down with most of the employees being located to Acclaim Studios Cheltenham.

There's another company called Iguana Entertainment Limited that's almost a spirtual successor to Acclaim Studios Teesside. This company was started by the original founders of Optimus Software and developed casual games for the DS, Wiiware, and Mobile. Sadly the company didn't last long and was only active from 2009-2012.
